February Donor Spotlight – Meet Chris Robertson

Meet Chris Robertson

Board Member, Philanthropist, Deejay and Host of March 14’s Bringin’ in the Green.

After moving to Houston from Salt Lake City in 2003, Chris discovered the Montrose Center – then named the Montrose Counseling Center, and immediately was captivated by our mission and values. Chris was immensely impressed with the Center because there were no similar organizations in Utah that provided so many LGBTQ+ affirming services in one location. He quickly became a volunteer and a donor to the Center that same year. Then in 2004, he joined the Board of Directors and served as a Board Officer by 2007. From 2011 to 2013, he assumed the demanding leadership role of Board Chair.

Chris had always envisioned the Center’s great potential to be much more than just an LGBTQ+ counseling center, thus he became one of the driving forces that fueled the Montrose Counseling Center’s rebrand to the Montrose Center in 2012. After serving two terms on the Board of Directors, he now shares his valuable financial skills and experience on the Center’s Permanent Endowment Board. Chris continues to support the Center as a major donor. Additionally, Chris donates his home as a venue and covers all the expenses for the annual Bringin’ in the Green fundraiser.

When asked what has been his most meaningful contribution to the Montrose Center, Chris immediately recalls the impact that his volunteerism has on clients who benefit from our programs. Some examples include making shelf-stable food baskets for the most vulnerable members of Houston’s LGBTQ+ community at the annual Francis Bueno Holiday Basket Extravaganza and attending the ribbon-cutting and grand debut of the Center’s H-E-B Emergency Food Pantry in 2011.

When Chris is not at work, volunteering, or hosting spectacular events, you can find him deejaying at Catbirds, putting amateurs to shame with his exceptional karaoke skills, working out, or on the ski slopes.

Chris loves Houston’s LGBTQ+ community and is excited to continue to support the Montrose Center and the meaningful ways that our services and programs empower the community to live healthier, more fulfilling lives.

Come out on Thursday, March 14 to Bringin’ in the Green, hosted by Chris at his home for the opportunity to join this month’s spotlighted Donor in his support of the Montrose Center!
