Bunnies on the Bayou raises and distributes funds for educational, cultural, and charitable programs. Their beneficiaries are selected on the basis of improving quality of life for individuals and raising awareness of individual human rights. Montrose Counseling Center is proud to be included as a beneficiary of this great group.
Bunnies on the Bayou began on Easter Sunday in 1979 as a small birthday party on Clay Street. The party was so popular that a sound system and invitations had to be added the following year. In the mid-1980s, when AIDS was taking its toll on so many in our community, the group began charging admission of a bag of food to help those in need. Within ten short years the party became so large that, by the 1990s, it had to be held outdoors. The plaza at Wortham Center on Buffalo Bayou was selected as the location, and the official name, “Bunnies on the Bayou” was born. It was at this time that money began to be charged for admission to be distributed to local charities.
Spend this Easter with the merriest bunnies on the bayou!
