It’s not easy to talk about suicide, but we must. September is Suicide Prevention Month, and on Friday, Sept. 23 we will get into the heavy stuff with the HATCH youth. If you are between the ages of 13 and 20, PLEASE don’t miss this meeting. You will find out that you are not alone. Nearly all of us have felt that way at some point in our lives. Even if you’re not in crisis right now, you can work on skills and develop resources so you know how to help a friend or where to turn when life feels almost unbearable.
Twice a year, we review suicide prevention with the HATCH youth, but they aren’t the only ones in physical or emotional pain. Montrose Counseling Center offers support groups and individual counseling for those dealing with depression or anxiety. If you find yourself spinning into darkness, volunteers with Gay & Lesbian Switchboard Houston are available for crisis calls, 24 hours a day, at 713.529.3211.
