1988- First National HIV/AIDS education campaign begins

Understandingaids

In 1988, Surgeon General C. Everett Koop oversees the first national education campaign regarding HIV/AIDS.The first mailing, Understanding Aids, is mailed nationally on this day. The mailing focused on debunking the myth that HIV/AIDS only affected males and the LGBT community.
