We Will Get You to Stand Still, Arden Eversmeyer!

There she was, right behind the Montrose Counseling Center and HATCH Pride Parade entries, wearing her purple LOAF shirt. Showing no signs of slowing down, Arden joined the other members of Lesbian’s Over Age Fifty. She’s been going at it since well before founding the organization nearly 25 years ago. Did we mention Arden is 80?

In addition to founding LOAF, Arden has coauthored a book of every-day lesbian biographies through Old Lesbians Organizing for Change Herstory Project. Part of that entails her traveling all over the country in her RV. You can find her here in our building on the third Sunday of each month, when LOAF meets in the GLBT Cultural Center.

In 2009, a group of Arden’s friends decided to begin fundraising to name a room in her honor. Next month, we will get her to stand still so that the community can come together and celebrate all the work she has done in her 80 years. On Thursday, August 11, we hope you’ll join us as we dedicate the room. The celebration will begin at 6 p.m. in Room 101 at 401 Branard St.

The women are still raising money for Arden’s room, and no contribution is too small. If you would like to donate to what will permanently become the “Arden Eversmeyer Room,” please send your donation to 401 Branard, 2nd Floor, Houston, Texas, 77006, c/o Arden’s Room, or click here to make a safe, secure online donation. Simply write “Arden’s Room” as the designation.

We hope you can come to the Celebration of Arden, especially since she won’t stay in one place very long before dashing off to her next project.
