As a trusted resource and proud member of the Greater Houston Disaster Alliance, the Montrose Center stands ready to support Houston’s LGBTQIA+ community during significant weather events and other disasters.
Montrose Center Disaster Response:
In the event of a severe weather incident or disaster, the Montrose Center will:
- Activate our Fund for Houston LGBTQIA+ Recovery
- Serve as a disaster resource hub
- Collect and distribute aid
- Provide longer-term recovery support

Preparing for a Disaster:
We strongly advise preparing well in advance of any potential disaster. Here are some essential steps and resources to help you get ready:
- Sign Up for Emergency Alerts:
- Review Disaster Preparedness Tips: Visit the Greater Houston Disaster Alliance Preparedness Site
- Create Your Emergency Plan: Use Ready.gov’s Planning Tools
- Build an Emergency Kit: Assemble supplies for at least 72 hours, including medications, important documents, and items for your pets.
- Know Your Evacuation Route: Familiarize yourself with local evacuation routes and designate an out-of-area contact.
If You Need Immediate Assistance:
- Current Montrose Center Clients: Contact your primary point of contact at the Center for resource connections and support.
- State Emergency Registry: Dial 211 or register online with the State of Texas Emergency Assistance Registry
- Food Assistance: Houston Food Bank
- Local Recovery Resources: Access Disaster Recovery Resources from Harris County
- Federal Aid: Apply for Federal Disaster Assistance
