Decadent Desserts & Dancing, a Sweet Success!

Thank you to the more than 200 people who joined us on Sunday, February 23, for Decadent Desserts & Dancing! We are happy to announce that the event raised more than $20,000 for AssistHers! The funds will be used to provide resources and support to local LGBTQ women living with chronic illnesses and disabilities.

We couldn’t have done it without the generous support of our Lead Sponsors: Neon Boots, who hosted the event and took such good care of us, and Devour Catering, who spoiled our guests with delicious goodies. If you haven’t yet tried their Fruit Loop cookies and banana bread pudding, you are missing out! Thank you also to Cake Fine Pastry, JodyCakes, Michael’s Cookie Jar, Nann’s Creations, and Starbucks (Medical Towers) for their contributions to our dessert spread. And huge thanks to Missy Bergman & Sandra Uhland and Railroad Crossing BBQ for the yummy savory food.

In addition to the desserts, the evening was full of fun and dancing thanks to Neon Boots’ resident deejay TJ, who had the dance floor packed all afternoon! Ian Syder-Blake and K’hem Trailz treated us to stellar performances, and Anita Das, LGBTQ Health Education and Outreach Specialist, served as our Emcee. Raffle packages included round-trip airfare on Southwest Airlines, staycation at Marriott South Houston Hobby Airport, romance basket, booze barrel, electronics, fitness items, and everything to spoil your fur babies.

AssistHers volunteer Theresa McClellan had us in tears when she shared some of the experiences of the AssistHers clients and the difference the program makes in their lives. She appealed to the crowd for donations and new volunteers to join care teams so that more women can benefit from the program. If you are interested in joining a care team – a commitment of only 5 hours a month! – please contact us at (713)529-0037 or lgbtqhealth@montrosecenter.org.
