7th Annual Depressed Cake Shop Raises Over $11,000!

The 7th Annual Depressed Cake Shop was a huge success again this year, raising over $11,000 to support the missions of the Montrose Center & NAMI Greater Houston! The yearly event features a one-day bake sale and cake auction where all of the sweets are black and gray to symbolize the effect of mental health issues, especially depression, on our lives. Hosted by passionate chef and mental health advocate, Jody Stevens of Jodycakes, the event shines a light on these issues while also connecting community members with organizations that can lend a helping hand.

For this year’s event, over 300 Houstonians visited the cake shop at Silver Street Studios to buy their favorite cookies, cupcakes, and other sweet treats! This year’s line-up featured stunning cakes for auction from many of Houston’s most renowned chefs, including David Alcorta, Anthony Calleo of Rudyard’s, Julia Doran of Nancy’s Hustle, and Victoria Dearmond of One-Fifth Houston, plus an impressive bake sale of smaller goodies from the city’s talented home bakers.

Just one of many amazing cakes auctioned at the event!

At the Montrose Center, we know all too well that LGBTQ individuals face a disproportionate number of behavioral health issues in comparison to their heterosexual peers. These are often a result of limited access to care, lack of diagnosis, as well as discrimination and lack of acceptance.

The Montrose Center is proud to partner with Jodycakes and NAMI Greater Houston to keep mental health at the forefront of the minds of community members and to support Houston’s LGBTQ community with all their mental health needs.

Check out some more of our favorite photos from the event!
