Huge thanks to everyone who celebrated local LGBTQ women with us on Saturday, August 24, at the 2019 Kindred Spirits Celebration Dance! We had a great turnout of over 500 attendees, whose generous support raised more than $26,000 for AssistHers, Lesbian Health Initiative, and SPRY senior women’s programs.
The Kindred Spirits Night Club of the 1980s was so much more than a bar – it was a community center. We are proud to continue the legacy built by Marion Coleman and her amazing team. With fewer safe spaces dedicated to LGBTQ women today, the dance provides the opportunity to relive our younger years and remains a place for the community to reconnect and celebrate.
We couldn’t have done it without the generous underwriting of our beautiful venue, The Ballroom at Bayou Place. Thank you, Lisa Scarborough, Kirksey Gregg, and Craig Howard, for always taking such good care of us and our guests. Thank you also to our event sponsors: Payless Insulation, Bering Memorial United Methodist Church, Steve’s Heating & Air Conditioning, The Lancaster Hotel, Southwest Airlines, H-E-B, Papa John’s Pizza, and Bud Light.
It’s not too late to support this event and the hundreds of local LGBTQ women it benefits! Donations welcome here.
