BULLIED Documentary & Community Organizing to Stop GLBT Bullying, December 7

Please add to your calendar Tuesday, December 7, for the Houston premiere of the Southern Poverty Law Center’s BULLIED: A Student, a School, and a Case That Made History. The documentary tells the story of Jamie Nabozny, who decided to take a stand – a stand against the bullying he endured and the bullying he knew other students were enduring. Nabozny went to court and fought for everyone’s right to be safe at school, even if you are gay.

By screening this inspiring documentary, we hope to galvanize the community around this important issue. Following the film, Youth Services Specialist Deb Murphy, will lead a community discussion about what we can do to stop the mistreatment of our communities’ youth. The brainstorming session will be the first step to identifying a concrete action plan to stop GLBT bullying.

We need your input! Please plan to attend and help us spread the word about this important event. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m., with the documentary at 7 p.m., and community organizing at 7:45 p.m. The event will be held in the GLBT Cultural Center on the 1st floor of MCC at 401 Branard. Community Partners include Montrose Counseling Center/HATCH, Southern Poverty Law Center, the Anti-Defamation League, PFLAG Houston, GLSEN and Equality Texas.
