Speak Up for GLBT Seniors

The Harris County Area Agency on Aging is looking for feedback and input in its Area Plan needs assessment. If you have an opinion about the needs of GLBT seniors, especially in the area of behavioral/mental health, please click here. The survey is conducted every three years as mandated under the Older Americans Act of 1965. The outcomes help determine service priorities for future funding, which impacts the lives of older adults and their caregivers. Mental health services are currently underfunded.

The survey comes on the heels of a new report from Movement Advancement Project (MAP) and SAGE. Improving the Lives of LGBT Older Adults shows that GLBT seniors “are more likely to live in poverty, face social and community isolation, and lack appropriate health care and long-term care.”

If you are a GLBT senior who needs support, please consider joining our Seniors Preparing for Rainbow Years (SPRY) program. For information about SPRY services and social activities, click here or call 713.529.0037.
