Thanks a Million!

On June 15, The Diana Foundation presented Montrose Counseling Center with a $17,000 grant designated toward two GLBT youth service initiatives: an outreach and needs assessment project targeting GLBTQ homeless youth in the Montrose area; and primary underwriting for the upcoming “2011 Voices of Houston LGBTQ Youth Summit: Taking Back Our Schools” event taking place September 17th. To the hard-working members of Houston’s first and oldest GLBT philanthropic organization, we extend our deepest gratitude for this generous award.

MCC is the recipient of a $20,000 grant from The Brown Foundation in continued support of our LIFE Counseling and Way Out Recovery Programs. The Foundation’s new Executive Director, Kay Hays, visited in May for a tour of MCC and the GLBT Cultural Center, later stating that she was impressed with the variety of scope of services being offered. MCC thanks The Brown Foundation for its long-standing support through the new economy and into the future.

Houston Endowment has granted $50,000 to Montrose Counseling Center, marking a shift from annual program-specific funding to supporting our general operations. In 2007 and 2008, Houston Endowment contributed $750,000, including a $500,000 challenge grant, toward the purchase and renovation of our building at 401 Branard Street. Please join us in thanking Houston Endowment for their momentous support of Houston’s GLBT community.

The brand new Whole Foods Market in Montrose started off on a generous foot by selecting Montrose Counseling Center and four other area nonprofits to share in a portion of their sales during their opening week. MCC received $1,362.04. We feel honored to be selected and are grateful for the generous gift. Welcome to the neighborhood, Whole Foods!

We’d like to again thank Capital One for their recent $1,000 Diversity in the Community Grant, raising their total contribution toward the HATCH Youth Program to $2,500 this year. By championing the needs of GLBT and questioning youth, Capital One sets a shining example for other corporations to follow.

We are so grateful to the AT&T LEAGUE & OutReach United for inviting us to speak about our work with GLBT homeless youth at their anti-bullying event on June 29.
