SUMMARY:PFLAG Houston General Meeting
DESCRIPTION:PFLAG has a threefold mission of support\, education\, and advocacy. There are many reasons that people might look for support when a loved one comes out as LGBTQ+. It could be we are struggling with that news\, or we may want information on how we can best support our loved one. We support each other by sharing our stories\, both the good and the difficult. We do this through our helpline and also through weekly\, confidential small support groups. \nEducation is the second part of our mission. We often need support because there is so much misinformation out there about being LGBTQ\, and PFLAG wants to counteract that through education. We have monthly general meetings that feature a speaker\, panel\, or similar program on issues impacting the LGBTQ+ community. \nFinally\, we take that support and education and turn it into advocacy. This can be at city hall\, in Austin\, or the national level\, but advocacy also happens in our homes\, in our families\, where we work\, where we worship\, on social med

SUMMARY:Harris County LGBTQIA+ Commission
DESCRIPTION:Regular meeting of the Harris County LGBTQIA+ Commission. The Commission shall develop goals and coordinate research for recommended planning\, programming\, and action relating to the progression and protection of rights for the LGBTQIA+ community in Harris County. \nEach year\, the Commission shall focus on at least one issue relating to the economic opportunities and development for members of the LGBTQIA+ Community which may include without limitation: access to healthcare\, pay equity\, equal access to advancement and promotion in the workplace\, workplace discrimination\, housing\, guidance counseling for LGBTQIA+ youth and caretakers\, and other relevant issue areas. \nThe Commission shall participate in community engagement at least once each year through means such as volunteerism\, conducting and publishing surveys or public reports\, and/or hosting community events and town halls.
