SUMMARY:PFLAG Houston General Meeting
DESCRIPTION:PFLAG has a threefold mission of support\, education\, and advocacy. There are many reasons that people might look for support when a loved one comes out as LGBTQ+. It could be we are struggling with that news\, or we may want information on how we can best support our loved one. We support each other by sharing our stories\, both the good and the difficult. We do this through our helpline and also through weekly\, confidential small support groups. \nEducation is the second part of our mission. We often need support because there is so much misinformation out there about being LGBTQ\, and PFLAG wants to counteract that through education. We have monthly general meetings that feature a speaker\, panel\, or similar program on issues impacting the LGBTQ+ community. \nFinally\, we take that support and education and turn it into advocacy. This can be at city hall\, in Austin\, or the national level\, but advocacy also happens in our homes\, in our families\, where we work\, where we worship\, on social media\, and just out in the world!
