What secret did we reveal at our annual fundraiser?

On October 27, Montrose Counseling Center presented the 2011 Stella Scott Annual Volunteer Award to an unsuspecting Carl Han on behalf of all the work he and Gary Giddings do for MCC and HATCH. The Stella Scott Award is MCC’s most prestigious honor and was announced during The Secret’s Out annual fundraising dinner. Gary was not able to attend, so we caught up with him later to snap a photo.

MCC Executive Director Ann J. Robison, PhD, says the Board of Directors chose Carl and Gary because of all the support they generate for our LGBT youth, whether it’s raising money, being incredible role models, or increasing the community’s awareness of the services we offer. They hold two annual fundraisers on behalf of HATCH, donate their time and talents at annual events like The Secret’s Out and the HATCH Prom, volunteer to represent HATCH at community functions, and consistently help us spread the word about this important program. In fact, on November 4, they held their 6th annual Brunch for HATCH, which raised over $3,500 for HATCH in just 3 hours!

To know Carl and Gary is to know that neither does it for the accolades, however it is our distinct pleasure to recognize both and sing their praises.

The Stella Scott Award was created in honor of the mother of one of MCC’s founding Board Members, Bill Scott. Her financial backing helped establish Montrose Counseling Center more than 30 years ago. Each year, the Stella Scott Award is given to the person, people, or community who has provided outstanding support and generosity to enhance MCC’s continued service to Houston’s GLBT communities.
