HATCH Summer Film Festival Becomes Intergenerational

During the summer when the youth were out of school, HATCH held its first annual Summer Film Festival. The response was so positive; the youth reached out and invited the SPRY participants to join them. Every Tuesday afternoon, they were entertained with a double feature, beginning the festival in July with Celluloid Closet and Big Eden, and ending on August 24 with La Cage aux Folles. Some of the films were chosen for their historic significance to the GLBT communities, and some were chosen just for their entertainment value.

HATCH Youth Services Specialist Deb Murphy says, “Both the youth and the elders enjoyed hearing each other’s perspectives on the films and the history of the times.” After each movie, there was a discussion, and Murphy says that many stayed to discuss it instead of socializing with their friends.
