Coming Out Support Group

Day: Wednesdays, online

Time: 6:45-8:15 p.m.

Contact: Thomas Owsley, towsley@montrosecenter.org.

Whether you’re still in the closet or have recently come out, the Coming Out Support Group is a safe, affirming place to share your thoughts and feelings about the coming out process. It is also a good place to build your support network, ask questions, and learn about resources that might benefit you as a gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender person. You don’t have to do this alone! Attendance is free.

You must be 18 or older to attend this group.

Am I ready to come out?

Coming out is a process. It doesn’t happen all at once, and there is no “right” or “wrong” way to do it. For some, coming out happens in stages. You may tell one person, or several. It may be family first, or friends first, or both. Deciding whom to tell and when are important choices. Sharing your thoughts with others and hearing others’ experience as part of a confidential group can help you in this process.

This group is not for me. What other coming out support is available?

The Montrose Center’s offers professional individual counseling through our LIFE Counseling program.

Coming out is one of may issues that one of our trained therapists can assist you with. The LGBT Switchboard 24-Hour Helpline (713.529.3211) is a 24-hour helpline operated by volunteers and staff of the Montrose Center. If you are in crisis or simply need information about LGBTQ-affirming resources, we are here to help! Texas residents only please.
