HATCH Celebrates Silver Anniversary, Plans Prom

This year HATCH celebrates 25 years of providing a safe, affirming place for GLBT and Questioning youth, ages 13 – 20. More than that, we celebrate the thousands of youth who we’ve been privileged to watch grow into healthier, happier versions of themselves.

Each story is different, but they all have common threads.

Before finding HATCH: The stress, anxiety, depression, and hopelessness of feeling left out, isolated, alone, different.

After finding HATCH: The utter relief of knowing they’re not alone, and that there are many others who feel the same way they do. Over the coming months and years, the joy of the friendships formed and the celebration of the person they are becoming. The progress and success found as they enter adulthood.

It wouldn’t do justice to the amazing lives HATCH touches to speak of this great group in terms of numbers and statistics, but we will share one number with you: ZERO. In 25 years, HATCH has never lost a youth to suicide, a statistic we never tire of sharing.

We all have our own stories of growing up and the struggles we faced. How can we show today’s youth our support?

The upcoming 20th Annual HATCH Prom is a great opportunity to do just that. How can you get involved?

  • Attend! The party will take place in the GLBT Cultural Center at 401 Branard, 7 p.m. – midnight, on Friday, June 8. You are invited to attend to relive your own prom experience or simply to show today’s youth your support. The party is free for GLBT and Questioning youth, and their allies, ages 13 – 20. Adults may attend for a $25 donation.
  • Sponsor the event! Sponsorship opportunities range from $50 – $500, with the money raised supporting HATCH’s year-round work. For more information, please click here.

The HATCH Prom is an amazing event where the youth may feel safe to be themselves and enjoy all the activities their peers get to experience at their school-sponsored proms. Please click here to enjoy photos from last year’s HATCH Prom.
