Recognized as the “oldest continuously running gay organization in the country,” Houston’s Diana Foundation was founded in 1953 as a social organization.  That it survived the 50s and 60s, when casual association with a “known homosexual” was risky, job loss a reality, and police harassment all too common, remains as a testament to the power of community and resilience of the LGBT movement.  Today, the foundation has raised more than $1.6 million for local charities and LGBT causes.

The annual Diana Awards are arguably Houston’s campiest tradition where members roast each other, boisterously and mercilessly, over a spectacular black tie dinner. The entertainment is anything but a drag, and you can count on it being drag at its over-the-top finest along with some seriously smooth cabaret acts. This year’s gala, dubbed “Cirque du Diana” is being held at the Omni Hotel on Saturday, March 22nd. Cocktails and a silent auction begin at 6:30 p.m.

Maybe it’s no coincidence, considering that Diana is now in her golden years, that the foundation has selected the Montrose Center’s SPRY program as one of its beneficiaries for 2014. For this, we say thank you, and congratulations on another successful year of fun and fundraising!

Come join the circus, and find out who will be (un)lucky enough to have a Diana statue on their mantle this year. Remaining tickets are $175 per person and may be purchased by contacting Craig McLemore at 832.651.0094, or by email.
